A cabochon cut gem is a gem that has been cut in a convex shape, polished bottom and faceted upper. It is also known as cab. A cabochon cut gem has a flat bottom and a slightly uneven rounded top. Rose cut cabochon is an improvised form if cabochon that has facets and lines on it. Lines on stone appears like rose leaves. Traditionally, this cut is presented in uneven oval shape, but in general, any other form can also be cut into cabochon style. This name originates from the French word caboche, which means head. Gemstones shaped and polished in are rarely used in early Judaic, Greek and Roman times. Back then for a decade, mostly gems were either shaped in cabochon gem cut method or were used in their naturally-found shape. And cabochon style stayed popular nowadays as well. Though most designers prefer faceted styles for their gems, there are certain gemstones that are still cut in rose cut cabochon shape such as Lavender Quartz, Oyster Turquoise, King men Turquoise, Purple Turquoise and so on are available at Ratna Sagar Jewels.
